Open call — Organize ECAF 2027

EAAF is seeking a team to host the European Conference on Algorithmic Fairness in 2027. Applications due July 31, 2026.

Each year, the European Association for Algorithmic Fairness (EAAF) launches an open call for organizing future editions of the European Conference on Algorithmic Fairness (ECAF). This is the call for ECAF 2027.

Why host ECAF?

Hosting ECAF offers an excellent opportunity to build connections with leading researchers and practitioners in algorithmic fairness, increase your visibility within the field, and strengthen the positioning of your work within your institution. By taking on this role, you actively contribute to advancing the state of the art and helping move Responsible AI forward across Europe.

Who we’re looking for

We are seeking organizers who are already active members of the European algorithmic fairness community, with a solid professional network and prior participation in EWAF/ECAF. We expect candidates to be deeply committed to an interdisciplinary approach to fair and responsible AI, bringing a vision for a conference where philosophers, computer scientists, legal scholars, and social scientists can meaningfully engage.

We especially encourage applications from interdisciplinary teams and from groups rooted in philosophy, law, or the social sciences.

Practical expectations

Time investment: General chairs typically invest around 220–330 hours over 6–9 months. This can be shared across a team.

Financial responsibility: The local host institution assumes full financial responsibility, including budgeting and securing funding. EAAF does not provide financial support. For 2027, we anticipate around 200 participants. Reference ticket prices from 2025: €300 (academia/government/non-profit) and €450 (all others). Institutional support and sponsorship are strongly encouraged.

Evaluation criteria

Applications will be assessed on:

  1. Team qualifications (25%) — experience in the field, community participation, team diversity and interdisciplinarity
  2. Vision and innovation (20%) — clear vision for ECAF ‘27, alignment with ECAF values
  3. Venue and logistics (20%) — suitability, accessibility, novelty of location relative to recent editions
  4. Financial planning (15%) — realistic budget, risk management, funding prospects
  5. Community impact (10%) — plans for inclusivity and diverse participation
  6. Organizational capacity (10%) — demonstrated event organizing experience, institutional support
